Mary Ann Simonds

Chief Sustainability Officer, Whole Systems Ecologist

Ms. Simonds’ career has spanned over 30 years working as a whole system ecologist in a variety of fields from mining and natural resource management to sustainable development and ecotourism. Her career began as a mining reclamation and regulatory specialist with Utah International/General Electric and Atlantic Richfield. She later led an environmental services department for Century Testing Labs and worked as a research scientist with clients such as Battelle Northwest labs. Currently, she is the director of the Institute of Integrated Sciences and the Equestrian Science Institute. Since 1983, Ms. Simonds has had a consulting practice working with private sector engineering and resource management companies as well as organizations within federal, state and county agencies such as the Bureau of Land Management, the U.S. Forest Service, and counties in Hawaii, California, Oregon, and Washington.

With her focus on cross cultural approaches to community planning and development, Ms. Simonds has worked on a multitude of projects involving native people in Hawaii, New Mexico and South Dakota including many tribes and tribal governments. As a researcher and product developer, Ms. Simonds has successfully brought over 20 products to market and continues to research and test new creative technologies for people, animals and the earth. She has helped facilitate the start up of a number of companies and counsels CEO’s and senior executives on strategic planning, organizational growth, change management, and communications.

As the lead whole systems scientist for EcoTechnologies Group, Ms. Simonds is responsible for leading the company’s environmental/ecological strategic planning, organizational development and integrating science and business principles with ecological sensitivity. Ms. Simonds holds a BS in Wildlife Biology and Range Ecology from the University of Wyoming and an MA in Inter-disciplinary Consciousness, Organizational Development and Leadership from John F. Kennedy University.
